Drabble: Dreamtime (Heroes; Angela/Adam)

man in fog
Last in a trio of drabbles about Adam, Angela and Kaito. Follows Methuselah, I and Tipping Point, although they can be read out of order.

No spoilers for future episodes. Spoilers for seasons 1-2, and for the deleted scenes which reveal Kaito and Angela's abilities. Contains speculation about the Company.

Angela and Adam. PG. She never wanted to be defined by this power.

I can tell by the way the trees beat, after
so many dull days, on my worried windowpanes
that a storm is coming

- Rainer Maria Rilke, 'The Man Watching'

Dreamtime

And there you are at last.

Caught out, deathless and death itself, in my shadowy dreams. I never wanted to be defined by this power. Like a wayward spouse, with no motive to hurt it comes and goes, there's no relying upon it. If it fails me again I wish it would be forever.

Is this what you've been waiting for? Is this really all?

The alternative would have been so easy: a careless slip of poison in my glass, a jolt at the wheel to send the two of us into the drowning cold. You would have been safe, no one else would know. Unless, that is, you trusted me with this secret. Unless you thought I was worth it.

If you have any lingering affection then do not wake me, please. You have turned me into a loaded gun and aimed me at your heart.

A/N: Angela's ability, which appears to a form of precognition through dreams, was revealed in a deleted scene from the season 2 finale never-completed episode 2x13.

Oh, wow. How breathtakingly sad and why I always felt this was the perfect power for Angela - it fits her and makes her make so much sense - it's no wonder she hasn't gone mad.

*On another note Angela's scene from 2 is actually not a cut scene from the finale, but a scene filmed from what would have been episode 2.13, but was cut when they revamped the plot to vol 3. :) (I could watch it so many times, by my god her recover is breathtaking) Good new is Adrian Pasdar filmed some stuff on the set recently that looks very similar, so it looks like they are re-shooting it to fit the new plot. Also, Kaito's power is gonna change and why it was cut from 2.1.

I hope you don't mind me pointing it out, its interesting, don't you think?

Thanks, I've fixed it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the drabble. :)

Also, Kaito's power is gonna change and why it was cut from 2.1.

Try as I might, I haven't been able to find anywhere that says that. Can you point me to your source?

The idea of it being changed aggravates me a little bit, to be honest. As I've said to [info]fan_elune, having Kaito have that power makes perfect sense.

It was attributed to George Takei at a con - (in something posted on 9th wonders)but now Kring comes out today (unless he was misquoted) that its his power, so now I don't know.

...Kring said they intentionally revealed this on the DVD for hardcore fans, though he set no time table for when people who only watch the show on TV might get to learn of Kaito’s power...

I hate giving info with out proof, I'm sorry I can't find the source of the first info

I do however find it odd there is no spoiler warning and only one for Angela's power - and I can't see why they are holding into Kaito's power on the show - won't Hiro want to know? So, I guess that's why George Takei's quote seemed to make sense.

Wow! I've just read this trilogy of drabbles and it's amazing! First of all,I love your style, this stream of consciusness or better inner monologue, the association of ideas and metaphors. And then, the characters:you've caught their essence. Adam is still so power-hungered after all this time,he still wants to change the world and it completely makes sense reading what you've written, what he's seen and the way he thinks about those things. He's wonr out as much as Angela is. She doesn't want it anymore and she feels restless, hopeless and so tired. Moroever, they seem to have a special connection.
Kaito is a different thing. (Thanks for posting the link to the deleted scene!) He seems partly grateful to Adam, while Angela shows no gratefulness, but he feels betrayed and used at the sane time. A different reaction for a different history.
Anyway, you've done a great job! I really loved these stories! I hope you'll write some more Company things soon!
