#1 in a trio of drabbles about Adam, Angela and Kaito. Followed by Tipping Point and Dreamtime.

No spoilers for future episodes. Spoilers for seasons 1-2, and for the deleted scenes which reveal Kaito and Angela's abilities. Contains speculation about the Company.

Adam and Angela. PG. Not powerless - never that.

This is how he grows: by being defeated, decisively,
by constantly greater beings.

- Rainer Maria Rilke, 'The Man Watching'

Methuselah, I

I have leapt, no sympathy for gravity, from waterfalls and zeppelin chambers, twisted my cheek to nurse three dozen languages, palmed golden heads of barley the same wrist scattered. Frostbite to make an avalanche I have deflected. Served my country, to muddy grave, and beyond it.

Time, you assured me once, is power; that is unless I misheard your warm breath.

Airtight in memory is your seal-black hair, burnt-copper eyes. Eyes that open to the future. Knowledge, another kind of power, you whispered, in awe and terror with your head pillowed beside mine.

A wonder - that I can be so powerful and still a prisoner.

But never fear.

Life is just a succession of temporary cages, my love, stretching beyond end. So keep away from the bars, their fugitive comfort.

Mmmm.

So dangerous, and lovely.

Thank you. :) I was out to reclaim some of that sinuous, creepy Adam that I once wrote. He was getting a bit too human, too comfortable lately for my liking. There must have been a reason for Angela's utter terror at the thought of him.

Adam can, be utterly controlled, and well mannered, but he has also lived for hundreds of years, and there is a feral intelligence about him that the Founders likely did not get enough of a taste of, or didn't realize was dangerous, until he let them.

Angela is right to be afraid, I think.

Ah, so beautifully worded. Deliciously literary. Burns like wax. Applause for you, fair writer.

Just gorgeous. Really you way with words pants a beautiful picture of two of my favorite and haunted characters.

Thank you! I love how complicated and worldly they both are.

Yes, I am dying to get them in a room together in the show, forced to banter with each other. I was trying to find a reason for the older Angela and Adam to have a 'chat' in her life story I'm writing, but it never fit into the story. :(

Its so nice to find people who adore Angela. :) Adam is a given.
